My Humble Prayers to
the Haitian People...
I remember this story
told to me by my dearest friend from Trinidad and Tobago, in
her (she's a great lover of Lord Krishna) words as such I
can remember, it goes like this:
Once there was a
conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna, "Who is your best
devotee and what can or will you do for him?" This was a question
from Arjun to the Lord.
Responding to his
question, Lord Krishna took Arjun for an evening walk around.
Uninvited of course, Lord Krishna went to one of his devotee a
regional King. Upon seeing Lord Krishna, the King ordered the best
food, music and entertainment to be staged for Lord Krishna and
Arjun. The best of the best arrangement was done.
After having the best
food and music etc., Lord Krishna in front of everyone blessed the
regional King and his many many generations to come with prosperity
untold, that let his (the King) name continue, let his treasury be
always be filled, his granary never become empty, let he and his
generations never see the shadows of misery in any way. Showering
his blessings to the King, Lord Krishna and Arjun left.
A stone throw away
from the King's palace, lived one farmer with his wife and three
children. He lived in mud shack. The farmer did not had much on his
body to cover least food in this house to feed the family. They used
to sleep on the floor with no blankets. They lived in a very humble
and abject state.
There was no rain for
couple of years, so the farmer could not grow anything worthwhile.
Famine was increasing every day. The stock of granary had hit the
bottom.
The whole farmer
family was devotee of Lord Krishna for many generations. In fact,
Lord Krishna was their "Kuldevta" (family Deity). They used to be
chanting the name of the Lord most of the waking hours.
When Lord Krishna with
Arjuna appeared at the door, the farmer and family welcomed the Lord
with great humility and tears of joy and love rolling down the eyes.
The farmer could not hide his poverty to Lord Krishna. He had a few
grains of rice which the farmer put in front of Lord Krishna and
Arjuna.
Lord Krishna took
great joy and ate every grain. There were a few drops of muddy water
in the "ghara" (earthen water pot) which the farmer put to Lord
Krishna and Arjuna. Lord Krishna drank without any concern. Arjuna
was a bit hesitant in all this but was amazed how Lord Krishna was
enjoying every moment with the farmer's family.
When it was time to
leave, Lord Krishna blessed the farmer and his family that they lose
all what they possess in life. Let no prosperity of this earth ever
come to them. And that they all die of hunger and thirst. Let every
sorrow come to them in this life. Lord Krishna took a last look at
the whole family and left.
Having said so Lord
Krishna and Arjuna departed. This whole affair caused Arjuna to cry
in pain and sorrow. He could not understand why Lord Krishna cursed
the already living in abject poverty family, why did He not bless
them with some peace and comfort. He humbly questioned Lord Krishna
why did He curse the whole family.
Hearing Arjuna, Lord
Krishna replied, this family is very dear to me, they have taken
refuge in my devotion for the longest time. I want them to take all
the misery and sorrow of this earthly visit into their stride and
exhaust all the laws of karmic retribution. Then for them there will
be no more karma. After passing through all that in this life, they
will finally exit from this earth and come to me, as their final
destination. They are very dear to me, I have a special place for
them in my world. After all they will enter into me, in my world -
Vrindaban.
This is my thought on
the plight of the Haitian people. Now it's up to you what you or other
religions will say or think. I will say, "Haitians are Krishna people."
With Krishna Love to
all,
